Beautifull Quiet Lake surrounded by impenetrable pristine wilderness

WOMEN IN WILDERNESS      Yukon Territory         -    15 Days    -
An adventures trip through the Yukon wilderness by canoe.

This consciousness-raising tour is meant for women that would like to be among other women while experiencing contemplation and self-awareness away from their jobs, every day routine, family and housekeeping chores.
Yukon is one of the wildest and most beautiful regions on earth. It is brimming with tremendous contrasts and overpowering vistas. Almost inaccessible mountains, luxuriant forests of pine, spruce and poplar, and the vast expanse of the northern tundra make up one of the last natural wildlife sanctuaries. Countless rivers carve through the landscape feeding thousands of crystal clear lakes, which reflect the colors of the sky
.
The tour will takes us on an adventurous nine day journey over solitary lakes and rivers through the magnificent wilderness of the Yukon Territory. Our canoe tour starts 150 miles (250 km) east of Whitehorse on Quiet Lake. From here we can expect 200 miles (330 km) of absolute wilderness ahead of us. Big Salmon Lake, Big Salmon River and Yukon River were once used as main travel routes by Yukon’s First Nations people, trappers and gold prospectors. These waterways will lead us far from any signs of civilization. Big Salmon River is a white water of class II. The group will be led by an experienced river and wilderness guide, allowing this trip to be managed even by beginners.
A highlight of this tour is Dawson City. In 1898 approximately 50,000 people responded to the call of the largest Gold Rush the world has ever seen. The Gold Rush capital Dawson City developed virtually overnight on an elk pasture. Today Dawson is a mixture of reality and legend creating the ambiance of the Gold Rush Era.

Day 3 to 11
We will reach Big Salmon River after two days of canoeing on Quiet and Big Salmon Lake. The fast currents of this river can quickly change to Keeping balance while crossing a creek on a logeasily passable rapids, or to slower currents. It may be necessary to portage or line the canoes around log jams and sweepers. The surrounding mountains, up to 6,500 ft (2000 m) high, touch the waters of the endlessly bending river. The riverbanks are entirely overgrown by deep impenetrable brush and forest; however, with some luck we might spot moose, bears, lynx, or even wolves, and we will often catch sight of beavers and bald eagles.
The fish you may catch would provide variety on the daily menu. Everyone will have the opportunity to learn a few tricks of wilderness survival. One of the many Cooking on open campfire is easy, one just need to know howcreeks will challenge our luck by panning for gold. After eight days we will reach the Yukon River; where, on day nine our canoe trip will end at Little Salmon Village. This little First Nation village is occupied only during the salmon fishing season. A short drive in a van will take us via the Klondike Highway to Minto, an abandoned paddle wheeler stop.

Day 12 and 13
Diamond Tooth Gertie's Goldrush ShowIn the afternoon on day 12 we will reach Dawson City, the legendary capital of the Gold Rush of 1898. Dawson City is history alive. For the last one hundred years people have been searching for gold here, and the countless scars are still visible. We will visit the Gold Miner Museum, Jack London Cabin, and of course "Diamond Tooth Gertie's" Gambling Hall where gambling, long-legged can-can-girls and honk-y-tonk piano player are boasting an almost real atmosphere of the Gold Rush Era.

Hotel: Aurora Inn or Westmark Inn (2 nights)
