EQUIPMENT LIST FOR YUKON/ALASKA AND YUKON RIVER TOURS
- 1 Backpack with a carrying capacity of 60 to 70 L/ 15 -17
Gallons (a similar sized duffle bag or travel bag can be used as
a substitute)
- 1 Small backpack for day trips
- 1 Sleeping bag good for temperatures of - 5 C / + 22 F for
trips, that run between mid June to the end of August (trips occurring before June 15 and
after Sept 1 will require a Sleeping bag good for temperatures of down to - 15 C / + 3 F)
- 1 Sleeping pad (Therma Rest sleeping pads are recommended and
are less expensive to purchase in Canada)
- 1 Warm jacket or parka
- 3 Pairs of outdoor pants (jeans are not recommended as they
are difficult to dry out when wet)
- 1 Warm sweater
- 3 Pairs of woollen socks, T-shirts, shirts, hats or caps
- 1 Set of warm underwear such as long underpants and long
undershirts (required for trips before June 15 and after August
31)
- 1 Pair of good hiking boots (it is VERY IMPORTANT
that your hiking boots are broken in before you take part in the
tour)
- 1 Pair of light shoes (runners or sneakers)

1 Set of light rain gear such as a pant and jacket
combination (poncho style rain gear is not recommended as it
hinders movement while canoeing)
- 1 Water bottle with a 1 litre/ 1 quart capacity
- 1 Pocket-knife or hunting knife
- 1 Flashlight (required for trips from mid July on)
- 1 Pair of sun glasses (VERY IMPORTANT!)

A supply of sun blocker or sunscreen lotion (VERY IMPORTANT!)

1 Waterproof dry bag with a capacity of 80 to 100 Litres (20
– 26 Gallon) for canoe trips (for the two-day Yukon canoe tour
(Yukon/Alaska Round Trip), waterproof dry bags can be rented at
a fee of CA $5.00/day)
- Personal medications
- Underwear, personal items, and toiletries
- Environmentally friendly soaps

* Yukon law prohibits the use of soaps and shampoos that are not
environmentally
friendly while in the wilderness. Soap and shampoo must be chemically
neutral and
biodegradable.
Recommended items neoprene shoes (old runners can be
used as well) for canoeing, photographic equipment with waterproof
carrying case, binocular, lighter, security band for glasses, spare
glasses, fishing equipment, 10 m/30’ of nylon rope with a 4 mm/ ¼"
diameter (to dry out wet clothes), spare batteries for electric powered
items, traveller’s cheques and/or a credit card.
We recommend to buy mosquito repellent after arrival in Whitehorse,
since it is way more effective than bug repellent bought in Europe.
