Big Salmon River is a white water of class II. The group will be led by an experienced guide, allowing this route to be managed even by beginners.

Day 2
Sightseeing of Whitehorse

It may be necessary to portage, or line the canoes around log jams and sweepers.

The riverbanks are entirely overgrown by deep impenetrable brush and forest; however, with some luck you might spot moose, bears, lynx, or wolves, and often you catch sight of beavers and bald eagle on the Big Salmon River. The fish you catch can provide variety on the daily menu. Everyone will have the Moose Familyopportunity to learn a few tricks of wilderness survival. After nine days you reach the Yukon River; where, on day nine your canoe trip ends at Little Salmon Village. This little First Nation village is occupied onlyMorning mist on the Big Salmon River in September during the salmon fishing season. A short drive in a van will take you to Carmacks and on to Whitehorse.
